Bill to Raise Truck Weights to 97,000 pounds Offered in House Transportation Committee

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is expected to vote in July on a bill (HR 1799) to increase the weight of trucks on interstate highways from the current federal cap of 80,000 lbs to 97,000 lbs. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Michaud (D-ME) and Rep. Schmidt (R-OH). The bill has 33 cosponsors in the the US House of Representatives. It is expected that it would be offered as an amendment during T & I Committee markup of the highway reauthorization legislation. Read more...
