Greenbrier, General Electric Railcar Services make a deal

The Greenbrier Cos. on Tuesday announced it has dramatically reduced the size of its one-time $1.2 billion contract to produce railcars for General Electric Railcar Services Corp. NJ Transit approves $13 million for transportation projects

New Jersey Transit has approved spending more than $13 million for transportation projects in southern New Jersey. The agency has agreed to fund a study for a proposed extension of a light-rail line from Camden to Glassboro in Gloucester County. The agency's board voted Wednesday to provide up to $9 million for an environmental impact study. Read more...

Locomotive engineers for Canadian National Railway are getting a small raise and work-rule change they did not bargain for, after talks between the two collapsed. CN said it gave the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference notice that the railroad was raising engineers’ pay 1.5 percent, and pushing them up to the higher monthly mileage cap requiring them to work as many hours as conductors during a month. Railroad company CSX Transportation unveiled two locomotives Thursday at the Big Four Yards in Avon, touting the yard engines as at least 80 to 90 percent more environmentally clean than most other railroad locomotives in service. A day after Union Pacific Railroad announced it launched an expedited chemical service with Norfolk Southern Railway, the Class I said it formed a new expedited chemical service with CSX Transportation, Progressive Railroading reported. The joint UP-NS "RailChem Connect" service will target chemicals moving between Texas' Gulf Coast region and the Southeast, such as through Houston, southern Texas and Louisiana. Read more...
