Wall Street Firms Seeing A Freight Rail Recovery

Some on Wall Street are sounding bullish notes on rail freight, predicting a sector recovery on sequentially improving commodity traffic and urging investors to buy the stocks. My instict says we have a recovery," lead analyst Randy Cousins told Dow Jones Newswires. He called the second quarter a bottom, while noting that the year-over-year numbers "are still ugly." CSX: $175M rail yard will spur additional businesses

CSX officials are betting that in 2011, North Baltimore will become a $175 million hub to sort goods for shipping across the nation by train and truck. It will employ more than 200 when fully operational. Four hundred more jobs are being generated during construction. The rail yard will spur warehouses and other businesses, generating about 2,600 jobs in the next 10 years, CSX officials predicted. Read more...

The next trade show, Railway Interchange, will be held in Minneapolis, MN in September 2011. The show will have indoor/outdoor exhibits and is being held in conjunction with the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance Association (AREMA), Railway Systems Suppliers Inc. CSX facing void in upper management

CSX is faced with losing 40-45 percent of its management staff of about 4,000 employees over the next 5-7 years, but they are creating programs to recruit and develop the employees that will fill those positions. CSX is also working to develop a workforce that reflects the diversity of the communities in which it operates. Read more...
