Passenger car no. 25103, damaged a few years ago in a yard collision but now completely refurbished — complete with that "new car" interior smell — was shown off Monday at Amtrak's maintenance facility in Bear. JR West president indicted over crash

West Japan Railway Co. President Masao Yamazaki was charged with negligence Wednesday over the 2005 train crash in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, that killed 107 people and injured 562. Yamazaki was accused of professional negligence resulting in deaths and injuries as he was in charge of safety measures when the carrier laid the sharp curve at the site in 1996 but did not put in an Automatic Train Stop system, which could have halted the train. Colorado RTD acquires tracks to Boulder

The Regional Transportation District has completed a $118 million deal with Union Pacific Corp. to purchase the right-of-way for its FasTracks rail line to Boulder. RTD officials said they purchased the existing 33 miles of Boulder Industrial Lead track, which runs between Commerce City and Boulder, to help build out the first parts of the North Metro commuter rail line to where Colorado 7, Interstate 25 and the Northwest Parkway meet. Bill to Raise Truck Weights to 97,000 pounds Offered in House Transportation Committee

The House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is expected to vote in July on a bill (HR 1799) to increase the weight of trucks on interstate highways from the current federal cap of 80,000 lbs to 97,000 lbs. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Michaud (D-ME) and Rep. Schmidt (R-OH). The bill has 33 cosponsors in the the US House of Representatives. It is expected that it would be offered as an amendment during T & I Committee markup of the highway reauthorization legislation. Read more...
